STORIES FROM SOME OF OUR VOLUNTEERS

Vanessa Boyd's Introduction to WEOP
==============================
One morning in late July 2006, I opened the South Fulton newspaper and read a story about the founders of WEOP, Antionette and Marionette Ball.  I was inspired by their passion to provide free training and education to women, and decided to give them a call to see if they needed any volunteers to assist with training.  Marionette answered the phone, and after hearing my enthusiasm about their organization and my offer to become an intern as a training assistant, she invited me to come to the next training class.

Well long story short, Marionette let me assist her in one MS Word XP - Level 1 class that she was teaching to a group of women that ranged in age from mid 20's to early 50's, and threw me in the fire to teach the women on my own for the next couple of weeks.  I was so nervous, but gained confidence and acquired the necessary experience to market myself as a technical trainer.  It is now Nov. 2007, a little over a year later, since my initial connection with WEOP, and I am now on my 2nd full time assignment as a technical trainer.  Amazingly enough, I managed to secure an interview this summer in June for my current project via WEOP introductions to a former WEOP Board member in September, 2006.
